Is the War On Drugs Actually Sustainable?

Some people are old enough to remember Nixon's Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 as the day the first shot was fired in the “War on Drug.” But, the “War” traces back much further to the Harrison Narcotics Act of 1914, so this “War” has been going on for nearly 100 years. Las Vegas medical marijuana doctors think that its about time to end this thing once and for all.

It use to be that you could order narcotics from the Sears catalog and have them delivered to your home. You didn't even need to get a medical marijuana card in Nevada to order your medication, imagine that, we lost more freedom of choice under so called drug laws, which were designed to keep us safe. Nevada medical marijuana clinics recommend their medication to people in need, there's no Sears Roebuck here, you have to actually be there in person and get a medical marijuana card in Nevada before ordering your medicine.

Today's war on drugs is a far reaching apparatus designed to disrupt, lock up or destroy drug makers, transporters and sellers. The US government has been involved in clandestine drug operations everywhere from Afghanistan to South America. The domestic costs of this little war is over $40 billion dollars a year. Millions of lives have been ruined over the “War on Drugs” and more people will suffer before this war is ended. This is basically an attack on personality liberty and freedoms, the parties that claim are protecting us, are actually limiting our ability to choose. It's just not fair. The monetary costs and the costs to human life has been too much. And we don't even know if we can continue to pay for this war.

Do we even understand why we're fighting this war? Take Las Vegas medical marijuana for instance, you can calculate the amount of marijuana available in one year based on the amount of marijuana seized for a rough estimate. If just 10% of illegal drugs are seized in one year,  based on 2002 estimates that would include over 2,400,000 pounds, so the estimate would be that 24 million pounds of illegal marijuana made it's way into the country. Not small numbers when considering that over $40 billion was spent to keep it out.

Think of the turnaround if Nevada medical marijuana clinics could give their patients legal Las Vegas medical marijuana. You could reverse that spend of $40 billion dollars and actually take in money through taxes. So, no the “War on Drugs” isn't going to be sustainable when you factor in the loss of life and the money spent. There are much better ways to handle medical marijuana clinics in Nevada, and that means legalizing and taxing them just like any other business. The doctors that recommend medical marijuana in Nevada want to be a completely legal business. It's time to end the charade and get Nevada medical marijuana clinics the respect they deserve. End this unsustainable war.
