Michigan Residents Still Overwhelmingly Favor Legalization
Beginning in 2008, Michigan citizens voted for the Michigan Medical Marijuana Initiative, Proposal 1 by a margin of nearly 63% of the vote. Their bill made the use and sale of medical marijuana legal. Nevada medical marijuana clinics are behind Michigan's medical marijuana desires. Now, after nearly 3 years of legalization, Michigan voters have not changed their minds. The state has had time to weigh the pros and cons of medical marijuana and the majority is still firmly behind peoples rights to choose their own medicine. Michigan joined doctors that recommend marijuana in Nevada in their fight to provide an alternative medicine to patients in need and their support is not going anywhere.
Michigan's' latest poll, which was paid for by a local medical marijuana patient advocacy group and conducted by the Marketing Resource Group of Lansing, found that after the vote that 61% of residents said that they would vote “yes” again. The poll may have dipped a little bit, but Michigan patients are still firmly behind their states medical marijuana bill. 37% said that they would vote “no” if asked again today. Las Vegas medical marijuana clinics have had to face some strong opposition from state and local authorities, but Michigan citizens are standing up and readying themselves for the fight.
The polls 1.6 percent change is so small when compared to the poll's margin of error. So there essentially has been no change in support whatsoever. Michigan is behind their states right to choose and this poll justs shows that there has been very little, if any, buyer's remorse from Michigan voters. They voted it in and they want it to stay. Medical marijuana doctors in Nevada enjoy the way that Michigan has fought so hard for the right to use medical marijuana. Michigan's patients have to get a card similar to how you get a medical marijuana card in Nevada. Almost everyone who has had an opportunity to examine the measure found that they liked it and that they want medical marijuana to stay in Michigan.
The strong support for local medical marijuana clinics in Michigan is something that politicians in Nevada should look at closely. Some lawmakers are trying to repeal Las Vegas medical marijuana clinics, but there is strong support in Nevada as well. There's little reason to believe that support for medical marijuana clinics in Nevada has not remained strong. Nevada medical marijuana clinics were approved by the people of Nevada and they're here to stay.
People understand that medical marijuana laws have some loopholes in them, and that those should be addressed and fixed rather than keeping them in indefinitely. A few lawmakers have tried to sound the alarms on Nevada medical marijuana clinics, but the public still supports medical marijuana. It doesn't look like that is going to change any time soon and doctors that recommend marijuana in Nevada do not want it to and neither do the patients.
