Republican Presidential Candidate Tells GOP to End Marijuana Prohibition
New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson has a wide grin on his face. It might be because he's been disguising himself as a Republican for years, but now the Governor, who was labeled “the next Ron Paul,” proudly proclaims himself as a libertarian. Even though he swears he's a Republican and he's running as a Republican, many of his views are staunchly anti-conservative.
Johnson speaks openly about his past drug use, saying that he's “smoked my share of marijuana.” Now that's a presidential candidate you can get behind. Doctors that recommend marijuana in Nevada love the thought of a progressive Republican in office, who would allow Las Vegas medical marijuana to flourish while creating an open free market for medical marijuana. Johnson even makes remarks about being high while driving and how that he may not have known where he was at the time – facetiously – saying that he could still stay in the lines.
The New Mexico Governor knows that alcohol is more harmful than marijuana, in fact, he's hasn't touched a drink in 23 years. He also believes that legalization is a step in the right direction. Nevada medical marijuana clinics could definitely get a boost if there was a similar governor in Nevada. Johnson even goes as far as saying that the world would be a better place if all drugs were legalized over night. He's not afraid of blanket statements that other politicians tip-toe around.
He's a candidate with views that directly oppose those of his party affiliation, yet he garners attention wherever he goes thanks to his outspoken personality and views on the drug war. If people can get a medical marijuana card in Nevada, then they should be able to use medical marijuana for their ailments. That's what he's about. Freedom of choice and limiting governments say in what we do with our personal lives. If you have a doctor that recommends marijuana in Nevada and they say a patient needs marijuana, then that patient should be able to obtain their medicine.
He supports open borders and marijuana legalization, yet he wants to slash Medicare and Medicaid. He's a man with a wide range of viewpoints and he's not afraid to stick up for what he believes in. And according to Johnson, things are changing. It was only 9 years ago that Sean Hannity blasted him for his views on marijuana legalization and just a few months ago Johnson was back on Hannity's show where Hannity had a complete change of heart.
People are becoming more accepting of marijuana and politicians who support medical marijuana. Medical marijuana doctors in Las Vegas are very happy to see this wave of change, hopefully it can sweep up from New Mexico and get Las Vegas medical marijuana the attention it deserves.
Johnson isn't afraid of the fight, now we just need more politicians to get behind Las Vegas medical marijuana. It's about time for some actual change.
