DEA Nominee Says She Will Lay Off State Medical Marijuana Laws
Raids on Nevada medical marijuana clinics have continued under the Obama administration, despite the saccharin sweet words of his campaign. Probably because that's all they were, just words. These words have been backed by double-talk and raids on Las Vegas medical marijuana clinics, of course Obama could care less. If you want to find out what the Obama administration feels about doctors that recommend marijuana in Nevada, then look no further to his nominee for the head of the DEA, Michelle Leonhart.
Michelle Leonhart has pledged to ignore laws like Nevada's that require patients get a medical marijuana card in Nevada if they want to use medical marijuana. What a huge letdown. Everyone thought that when the Obama administration took office that they would focus their attention elsewhere, instead they are focusing their cross hairs squarely on medical marijuana doctors in Nevada and Nevada medical marijuana clinics.
Michelle Leonhart claims that she has seen what marijuana has done to young people and how it has destroyed families, and if she is confirmed as DEA administrator, she will continue to shove these unjust laws down our throats.
Of course legalization efforts sound good to people, because it works! Look at countries like Portugal and the Netherlands, where drugs like marijuana are decriminalized. Their countries had an epidemic of drug problems, but no more thanks to progressive drug laws and people willing to work with them. But, legalization is not something that opponents of medical marijuana clinics in Nevada want to hear. They prefer the time-tested misinformation techniques that have raised a nation to fear medical marijuana and believe that all Las Vegas medical marijuana patients are godless criminals.
One one the biggest problems is the lack of leadership from President Obama on the medical marijuana issue. The administration has been just as bad as Bush's when it comes to handling Nevada medical marijuana clinics. The one difference is that Bush was adamant about not supporting doctors that recommend marijuana in Nevada, where as Obama has kept his true intentions hidden, preferring to play the political game. But, this is not about politics, it's about helping patients who need Las Vegas medical marijuana to live a normal and happy life. Isn't there something in the Constitution about not preventing people from pursuing happiness? You wouldn't know it by looking at this administrations double-talk.
One thing that all Las Vegas medical marijuana patients need to realize is that the federal government doesn't care about them, if they did they would not be nominating someone with such vitriol towards the Las Vegas medical marijuana movement. It's sad to think that two years have passed since the election and things are no different. What we were promised was not delivered, and what we were to be delivered from is still stamping on our heads. But, the day will come when medical marijuana clinics in Nevada will have the numbers and clout to make real, broad changes.
